About Krill Oil

Euphausia superba is a species of krill found in the Antarctic waters of the Southern Ocean. Krill are shrimp-like invertebrates or crustaceans that live in large schools, called swarms, sometimes reaching densities of 10,000-30,000 individual animals per cubic meter. Krill Oil is an excellent source of omega-3 fatty acids for the maintenance of good health.

Unlike fish oil, the omega-3 fatty acids in Krill Oil are absorbed and carried to the body’s cells in phospholipid form. Phospholipids form the structural basis of cell membranes, so phospholipids with omega-3 fatty acids are easily recognized, absorbed and utilized by the body. Best of all, there is no fishy after-taste.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Krill Oil?
Krill Oil is a sustainable, marine source of highly bioavailable Omega-3 fatty acids. Krill Oil is rich in Omega-3 fatty acids (EPA and DHA) that are naturally bound to phospholipids, thereby providing enhanced bioavailability. Krill Oil is also rich in Astaxanthin, a powerful antioxidant, that works synergistically with the phospholipid-bound Omega-3 fatty acids to support cardiovascular, cognitive, joint, eye and skin health.

Is Krill an endangered species?
Krill is not an endangered species. Even though whales feed almost exclusively on krill, only 0.03% of the total biomass is harvested. The CCAMLR (Commission of Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources) annually regulates and establishes catch limits to ensure that krill remains an un-endangered species.

What are the active ingredients in Krill Gold?
The active ingredients in Krill Oil Gold are phospholipids, phospholipid-bound Omega-3 fatty acids, Astaxanthin, and small amounts of choline.

Does Krill Oil Gold contain anything other than the active ingredient?
Krill Oil Gold does not contain anything other than the active ingredient.

How does Krill Oil compare to Fish Oil?
Although Krill Oil and Fish Oil both provide Omega-3 fatty acids, there are some important differences in the two sources with regard to composition and bio-availability. Krill Oil contains Omega-3 fatty acids that are bound to Phospholipids, which are the structural basis of human cell membranes. For this reason, the Omega-3 fatty acids in Krill Oil are thought to be more bioavailable than traditional Fish Oil. In addition, Krill Oil contains the powerful antioxidant, Astaxanthin, which works synergistically with the Omega-3 fatty acids to deliver therapeutic benefits at a lower dosage.

What is the recommended daily dosage of Krill Oil?
For cardiovascular health, we recommend a daily dose of 1,000 to 1,500 mg per day of Krill Oil Gold for 3 months, followed by a maintenance dose of 500 mg thereafter. For joint health, we recommend a daily dose of 500 mg per day. For women’s health, we recommend a daily dose of 500 mg per day OR 2 g per day of Krill Oil Gold 8 days prior to a menstrual cycle and 2 days during. For cognitive health, we recommend a daily dose of 500 mg per day of Krill Oil Gold. For general health, we recommend a daily dose of 500 mg per day of Krill Gold.

Is Krill Oil Gold free of heavy metals, PCBs, and toxins?
Krill Oil Gold features an exceptional purity profile and is guaranteed free of heavy metals, PCBs, dioxins, furans, and other toxins.

Is Krill Oil Gold free of allergens?
Krill Oil Gold is verified free of corn, egg, gluten, milk, peanut and soy allergens. It does contain ingredients derived from shellfish and individuals with a known or suspected allergy to shellfish ingredients MUST consult a healthcare provider before taking Krill Oil Gold.

Is Krill Oil Gold suitable for vegans/vegetarians?
Krill Oil Gold contains animal-derived ingredients (krill oil, fish gelatin) and, for this reason, it is NOT suitable for vegans or vegetarians. It is suitable for pesco vegetarians

How long does it take to notice benefits?
As with any nutritional supplement, Krill Oil Gold must be taken for at least 6 to 8 weeks, if not longer, for noticeable benefits. Please be advised that nutritional supplements work best when they are taken as part of a health maintenance program that includes a sensible diet rich in whole grains, fruits, and vegetables, a moderate exercise program, and the necessary lifestyle changes to support wellness.

What are the side effects, interactions, and/or contraindications, if any, associated with Krill Oil Gold?
Individuals who are pregnant or breastfeeding, have a seafood allergy, coagulopathy, or are taking anticoagulants, or taking Orlistat (Xenical, Alli) or any other OTC or prescription medications, and individuals with a known or suspected medical condition, or those planning a medical procedure, should consult a healthcare professional before taking krill oil.
